08 hyundai santa fe rear rotors rub

by clipironman18 on Jul 10 2017, 1:22 PM

i installed brand new rear rotors on a 08 santa fe and i adjusted the parking shoes down as far as they can go but when intalling the rotors im getting a rubbing noise on both side. looks like the shoes are rubbing on the drum part of the rotors. any suggestion?

have you tried the coated rotors? This is all we use here in our shop and have not had a problem yet. but I would check to see if teh backing plate is causing it at all.

Is it the rotor hitting the caliper bracket or the drum hitting the backing plate or shoes.

I would check the backing plates.  They can hit on some aftermarket rotors

Not a whole lot of premium rotors out there Wagner rotors have been my cure all. Away from the dealerships

Is it when braking or not braking?

We have had issues when installed some of the more economical brake brake rotors but not with the premium brands.  The service spec for the parking brake drum are on this vehicle is 7.48 inches or 190 mm.  Check to see if the new brake rotors meet that.  If not you can machine or replace with a different brand.  If they do meet that spec then check to see in the parking brake shoes that were installed match the OEM design.

What brand rotor are you using?

Either get a different brand of rotors or if they will fit on your brake lathe, you can try machining to gain a little extra clearance. A different brand rotor is usually easier.
