Had this 01 Avalon come in with codes P0301, P0303, P0305, (misfire cylinder #1, #3, #5) and P1349 VVT system malfunction B1.  Performed VVT actuation test, failed.  Upon trying to remove the VVT solenoid it was stuck worked it back and forth for about an  hour with little luck.  The solenoid winding part was coming loose from the valve body.  I looked on Google and found that this was a common problem and many different Toyota models.  The way to get out the valve body is to remove the solenoid case, then take some needle nose and remove the spool valve. Then made a trip to my local home improvement store and bought a 1/2" lag bolt 6" long.  Next carefully threaded the lag bolt into the aluminum valve body very slowly watching for movement of the valve body.  After the valve body started to turn, I took my slide with an adapter hooked to the lag bolt and with a couple of wacks the stuck valve body came out of the head.  Blew the hole out with air and installed the new VVT solenoid assembly. Cleared the codes and test drove.  Vehicle fixed
