2002 Cadillac Escalade Intermittent No Start

by jburdick1 on Aug 03 2017, 7:17 PM

Customer came in initially with a bad alternator and battery. Both were replaced, customer had vehicle towed back to our shop, said it wouldn't start. After sitting for a week with no issues at the shop, it finally would not start. My tech recommended and we replaced the ignition switch. Customer reluctantly paid, took the vehicle home, and was back a day later with same issue.

Another tech looked at it, and deemed the PCM bad, as the was a drop in the ground when trying to start the car. Replaced the PCM, and now I have it here again, with 2 techs scratching their heads trying to trace the drop in the ground when trying to start the car. Unfortunately, it is so intermittent that it might happen after 20 or so tries, and sometimes it happens all the time, and when you go back to it, it fires right up....any ideas? thanks in advance!

Check the ground on back of the driver's side head

Does the vehicle crank over at all when trying to start it?

Check ground, if nothing else works like windows or lights ground is most likely the problem. If not maybe the positive or negative terminals on the battery is loose and wiggling around? Bust out the voltmeter and check power to starter and ignition switch.

Check the ground on the frame under the drivers seat area. It frequently corrodes and the welded nut can come loose causing all sorts of electrical problems
