2006 Honda Element New Compressor Locked Up

by 1995obsf350 on Oct 18 2018, 12:42 AM

I have a 06 element in the shop with a bad A/C Compressor, before we got it there have been 3 compressors and 2 condensors put in it, We installed a new compressor, condensor, accumulator, and expansion valve and cleaned out all lines and flushed the evaporator, (no signs of "Black Death" in the system.  A week later it came back, just suddenly stopped blowing cold air, compressor and clutch is getting power but the clutch won't come on, freon is still full, anyone have any ideas or experience this issue?

I would try a different parts supplier. Sounds like you took all the proper steps in trying to avoid these issues.

That's why we always go with Honda parts

Definitely agree about changing vendors. Relays definitely go bad. The only thing I notice that concerns me is that the condenser is being flushed. If the compressor is locking up, the condenser must be replaced & not flushed. It is a ribbon style condenser that will not clean well at all. Also some of the aftermarket condensers we have gotten for these Hondas have less rows than the OE ones. If installing an aftermarket condenser, check carefully so that a/c system capacity & efficiency isn't compromised.

If it is getting voltage at compressor and will not engage then check for ground.  If it has power and ground suspect the clutch on the compressor is bad.  The electro-magnetic clutch can be bad without any other refrigerant related problems.

Sounds like it may have a bad compressor clutch

If compressor is locked up again, we would change comp. vendors. You stated clutch has power but how many volts are actually present? Clutch relays are a common failure on these dropping excess voltage across the contacts
