2007 Impala 3.5 No crank, Stall on start after crank at times.

"I've just been to another shop and they quoted me $2400.00 to replace the starter. But my dad just replaced it and the problem is still there." She said "I've been to several shops and no one can give me any answers. I also failed emissions and no one can tell me why." Upon opening the hood there are the usual suspects, Already replaced.. Starter, Battery, and the Starter relay. Fine; this isn't going to be an easy one. Scanning the PCM for codes I found P0341 CMP performance, P0641 Starter relay control circuit, and P1682 Ignition switch circuit 2. Well getting through Emissions should be easy enough. Let's look at the rest. Luckily this was a very consistent failure. Starting at the starter relay I checked the output. My test light flashed as the starter tried to crank. I watched the PID for cranking at the PCM It was steady. Next I checked the power to the supply side for the starter of the relay. It was steady.  The relay was dropping out. After studying the wiring diagram I found  the BCM Supplies power to the Relay to operate the coil and close the relay. The ground for the relay is on the transmission and is constant. I checked the power supply from the BCM and found it to be steady. The problem was in the under hood relay fuse block. I found one at the local junk yard and swapped it out. Problem Solved!

I wonder if this a common symptom. I know alot of people that do not check fuses and relays first, they replace the expensive parts first before checking fuses and relays.

I should note that the actual cause of the no start and start stall was the PCB/IGN relay dropping out. That relay is internal in the under hood fuse block.
