2007 VW Passat Throwing Codes

by loridasz on May 24 2017, 4:33 PM

2007 VW Passat, 2.0, and it is throwing codes P0171, P0300, P0301 & P0302. I checked compression and found that it was 65-70 lbs. across the cylinders. What should the compression be?

I would start with a smoke test.

I always look for a min. of 100 psi per cylinder on all cars.

If you performed your compression test correctly, those compression numbers sound way too low.

Compression should be around150-160 psi, with no more than around 10% variance between cylinders. I would think there would be some valve timing issue or possible a bent or multiple bent valves,

    SOUNDS LIKE A HEAD PROBLEM.

THE AVERAGE OF 1 OUT OF 5  OF THOSE ENGINES

MORE THEN HALF THE TIME ITS DEW FROM THE

TIMING JUMPING. AND SMASHING THE HEADS.

Your compression should be 150-160 psi, with no more than 10% variance between cylinders.  I suspect you have a valve timing issue with possible bent valves,

if compression is low on all cylinders, id check the timing belt for proper timing.  the tensioner probably bad and its jumped time

Fist you should id the compression tests results and see why the compression is low. Then start with a cylinder leakage test to confirm why the low compression. Low compression across all cylinders is pointing to valve timing find that issue and should run like a charm.

We have been doing alot of engines in 2.0 turbo vw products for bad ring seal and skipped chains bending valves.  Good luck, low compression is an expensive repair no matter what the cause.
