2009 SATURN AURA

by odanielsgarage on Jun 12 2018, 5:17 PM

We purchased a used 2009 Saturn Aura for my daughter's first car.  No check engine light when we purchased it, of course two days later the check engine light and power steering lights came on.  *We now know the guy cleared all the codes before we came to look at it* We put the machine on the car and it pulled up 24 codes, everything from power steering to electrical issues within the motor.  I have never seen a vehicle have this many codes at once, does it happen very often?  The car drives great, except after about 20 min of driving the power steering goes completely out.  Some days it starts, other days it just does nothing, no click, no bells nothing.  I'm wondering if this was a flooded car possibly?

Low battery voltage can cause numerous issues. Make sure that you have a good fully charged  battery in the vehicle

Thank you, I'm going to get the batteries charged up since the car is dead from sitting for so long, (that should clear the codes if I'm not mistaken?) and then put the computer back on it and pull up which codes it's throwing.  I suppose we'll have to take them one at a time and just start with the most problematic, which is it not starting occasionally, then move on to the power steering.

I always clear the codes, then drive the car and see which codes come back and concentrate on them.

It is possible that it is a hurricane car,etc... That being said, get it diagnosed! Once you know what is going on, you can make a good decision that is based on fact & not fear. Electronic steering is not overly problematical, but we do our fair share of repairs. It may be a bad sensor, motor, wiring problem, etc... Just because there are a lot of codes, doesn't mean it is a huge problem. You could have one bad ground, or a bad leg on an ignition switch that sets a ton of codes. Both of those could cause starting concerns as well. Don't just assume the worst, get the facts.
