2010 Camry compressor diagnosis

Had the Camry come in, A/C not cold.  Hook up gauges static pressures 100 psi both low and high side  Turn A/C on no change.  Compressor clutch seems to be turning.  But wait a minute, this compressor doesn't have a magnetic clutch,  This is a variable displacement compressor  So how can I check if the compressor is good or bad?  So I found the displacement solenoid and installed the appropriate break out lead from Aeswave and hooked up my voltmeter and set it to read duty cycle.  Next started the car and turned on the A/C and observed the compressor being commanded on to a 99% duty cycle, thus confirming a bad compressor.

Some other manufacturers have been using this style of compressor. Volkswagen has for instance. Some of these you can just replace the variable displacement solenoid without complete compressor replacement. Be sure to look at that option unless there are other indications of compressor failure. Not all manufacturers service the solenoid separate.
