2013 Jeep Wrangler brake fade

by mitchtruck17 on Sep 05 2017, 6:15 PM

Techs!

We recently did a four wheel disc brake job on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler after manually and pressure bleeding the pedal is hard n firm turn the vehicle on the pedal fades to the floor!  Clamped off the hoses the pedal stays hard.  Plug the lines on the master pedal fades  we are stating a bad master!

your thoughts?

thanks

obviously this is a old post , but seriously no one said it . if you clamp the hoses and the pedal stays hard then the entire system up the hoses is good including the master and abs . It would be after the clamp point which means calipers or pads

When bleeding brakes, you move the master cylinder farther than it usually goes into the bore. If there is any build-up or junk in it, it can damage the internal seals & start by-passing. It doesn't happen all the time, but probably 5% of the time we pump the pedal to bleed. After replacing pads, etc... I try to avoid pushing the pedal all the way down. Just push the pedal part way to avoid master cylinder damage. Do cap the master cylinder to verify that it is bad. We have had some Wagner pads that are way too soft & cause a real low pedal.

Check your caliper slides if you have too much grease in them they will lock up and could cause pedal fade.

If you pull the lines from the master and plug those ports start the vehicle and still have a fade it is definitely the master. When you pull the maste look for fluid leaking into the booster
