2013 Toyota RAV4 Melting Headlight Connectors

by higbieservicecenter on Aug 11 2017, 7:43 PM

We currently service a fleet of 2013 Toyota RAV4s, and the vehicles are often left idling with the DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) on.

It would seem that the 9005 bulbs used are drawing too much amperage and sometimes return within the week with the connectors burned up and the terminal on the bulb melted.

We have tried Phillips, Sylvania and other bulbs before and each time the same result. We are even using the upgraded ceramic connectors from Standard.

At this point we have installed LED bulbs in one vehicle (with no issues so far), but the driver has complained that they aren't as bright.

Has anyone else seen this issue before? Any solutions?

Techsmart makes a connector that is ceramic instead of plastic. These are more durable.

we have a bunch of Tundras with the same issue, we have replaced the socket and bulbs as a pair and apply heave dielectric grease to the sockets and seemed to resolve the issues. hope this helps!

change the bulb and connector. perform an amerage draw test on each bulb and if possible verify on a good vehicle with the same bulb.  sometimes on the metal connection i would use a conductor enhancer. like brass paint to repair rear window heating grid lines.

If you are looking to the LED headlight switch you have to watch out for the rating just like with hid upgrades, LED headlights should have the same ratings, you should look for the 6000k ones, the are nice and bright and have a more white color
