What is the best air hammer to use for separating tapers on suspension parts?

Agree with feadude, but would say a hammer and pickle fork (carefully) is the best i've found

Agreed, be careful when working with aluminum. However, at times I do use an air hammer, at times use a regular hammer. I have both a short throw & a long throw air hammer. Sometimes the faster/shorter throw works best, & at times the slower, harder hitting long throw works best. The more options you have available to you, the better it is.

I use a air hammer with a pickle fork to wedge it in, the i switch to using a hammer. that works for me almost all the time

When using a hammer or an air hammer,  caution needs to be taken to make sure that you are not working on a suspension part that is made out of aluminum.  Using a shock method to break the taper on an aluminum part can cause it to crack.

I agree with feadude, use two hammers, one on the back side of whatever you are hitting and swing away. the hammer on the backside keeps the force in whatever you are hitting. Its an old school trick I learned years ago from an old timer I worked with.

Honestly I've always had better luck with a hammer than an air hammer & pickle fork.

Seems like a pickle fork does more damage than just a few big hits with a hammer to break the taper free.
