No charge

by lowandslow91 on Mar 15 2018, 3:04 PM

I have a 1990 Toyota pick up that the charging battery light just came on I pulled the alternator off had it checked  at the local parts store the battery is hotter than a firecracker I've checked all the wires that have anything to do with the charging system the red wire has power to it when the key is on the white wire has power to it at all times and the yellow wire has no power at all.  I have been chasing this for a week and a half and can't seem to figure it out any help is appreciated

    Voltage regulator is probably bad.

Certainly the Voltage Regulator is bad causing the Alternator to charge uncontrollably! This in about every case will warrant the need to replace the Alternator, Voltage Regulator, and Battery as once they are overcharged to that degree they will sulfate which shorts 2 cells or more together cause an internal short which as stated above is VERY dangerous and can can cause a battery to explode which will make a very nasty mess because of the sulfuric acid within as well as an even worse condition of it getting in your eyes and causing serious burns! If the voltage regulator is internal as in most modern vehicles, there will be no need to purchase a Voltage Regulator separately.

    Hope This Helps!

Have you done a voltage drop on sense circuit, if alt. dose not sense the wright voltage it will over charge!

white wire dig. shows 2 white wires  both go back to battery the one that goes thru 40 amp fuse.

Have you checked the charging system voltage at the battery with the engine running? A warning light can come on for more than one reason. Including. Charging voltage should 14.6 volts. If it is more the battery will over charge and overheat. Lack of voltage or improper voltage at the regulator can cause this. Also be careful around that hot battery avoid sparks and wear protection an overheated battery can easily explode! Keep us updated!
