Scan tools

by adam gross on Jul 01 2017, 7:25 PM

Hello.  I am looking for a good aftermarket scanner.  Pretty much just do domestic, mostly trucks(light duty diesel).  Right now thinking its gonna be a snap on or otc.

Any advice.

Thanks

Adam

If you go on Amazon and type in what you're looking for and narrow the search down to 4+ stars you can honestly get a pretty decent one relatively cheap. I just bought one for $20 just to keep in my truck. Does the job!

Shop around, see if your tool dealers will let you test drive one for a bit, or have a couple demonstration done with various scan tools, most are happy to show off their tool.

I have an Autel and a OTC Genesys.  Each has there own capabilities.   Having aftermarket scan tools, you definitely need more than  one.

Snap-on is good if you dont have a lot of experience. Bought a Verus for about 10k years ago. The tool has limited functionality. The connector views in scope are great. Just purchased an Autel Elite. It is able to comunicate with all modules on all vehicles, unlike the Verus. It also has the ability to code modules. I had also purchased the Snap-on pass through module for reflashing for $1300. Really its a Drew Technology painted with Snap-On on it. The Autel provides more complete coverage (without the built in service info) and a pass through module for about $4000. Only down side is most entry level techs will have a hard time navigating it. If you are an experienced tech you should have no problem.

Recently  got Autel Maxysis908. Love it.  Replaced old Launch 431 tablet. Have used old Otc EVO, current  Snap on  Solus.  Maxysis is equal or better. (or NEWER???!! )
