shudder when shifting

not sure if i put this in the right place or not....hopefully it is.

i've got a 2013 dodge charger police package. 5.7 engine, auto trans. i don't know which trans it is though. vehicle has approx. 57k miles. what's happening is that under part throttle, on the 2-3 shift, it shudders. well...shudder might be the wrong word. more like it feels like we're driving on rumble strips. when de-accelerating, i can feel the same thing, with closed throttle. the officer that drives it also reports this behavior at higher speeds too.

we changed out the fluid with atf+4 directly from the dealer. this changed nothing. it seems to do this regardless of operating temp. i'm not a transmission guy, so i'm kind of getting past what i know at this point.

they took it to the dealer due to the possibility of still being in warranty. the dealers tech felt the problem, but cannot pin anything down either. he's been told to drive it for 2 weeks then take it back to them.

has anyone seen this behavior before?

thanks guys!

I agree with above. Sounds like a torque converter issue. I have had luck with Ford products performing a transmission flush.

Converter, but defiantly worth breaking down and inspecting internals. The rebuild kit has "updated parts" so I suspect something was not right inside.

Worked for Chrysler for 12 years as a transmission tech. Drive vehicle and monitor TCC. Your problem is most likley happening in partial lock up. Very common problem with the NAG transmission. Also known as WA-580. The dip stick tube is directly under the evaporator drain. Water can enter trans through dipstick tube seal. Simple cure (which should be covered under Powertrain warranty) is to nflush trans, replace torque convertor, and install new dipstick tube seal. once the TCC clutches are damaged the only fix is to replace. No TCC flash available.

The rumble strip is a dead give away for a converter clutch issue. It is trying to come on but isn't holding for some reason. Need to do some in depth transmission testing, could need a reflash, could need a valve body.

Are you sure it's in the transmission?  Check driveline/u-joints or differential?  Let us know....

Ask them to reprogram the tcm or ask a transmission shop if they offer reprogramming.
