ThermoQuiet Pad Defect
by czechsonme on Jun 22 2017, 9:03 PMI installed a set of front ThermoQuiet pads on a 2013 Kia Sorento a few months back. After initial seating, the right front pad continued to produce a grinding sound from time to time. Upon inspection, it was noted that the related rotor was groved, and assumed a rock was lodged at some point but no longer apparent. The grinding noise continued, and second and third inspection (dealership) concluded the pad has a defect in the matrix that appears to be a chunk of metal. This defect has caused significant damage to the rotor (it will need to be replaced). I've done quite a few brake jobs in the last couple of decades and never seen this problem, has anyone else?

We also install a lot of ThermoQuiet pads. Thanks for the heads up.
